The Shining Star Educational Organization of Afghanistan (SSEOA) is a national, non-profit, non-governmental, and non-political organization officially registered with the Ministry of Economy of Afghanistan (Registration No. 4388) on 18 February 2018 (Operational since 2016). Since its establishment, SSEOA has worked alongside communities to improve the lives of vulnerable populations through integrated humanitarian, development, and resilience-building interventions. While education remains the cornerstone of our mission, the organization has progressively expanded its portfolio to address the interconnected challenges affecting Afghan communities through evidence-based, community-led, and sustainable programming.
With a strong presence across multiple provinces of Afghanistan, including Kabul, Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman, Nuristan, Balkh, Takhar, Badakhshan, Kunduz, and Bamyan, SSEOA operates in some of the country's most underserved, conflict-affected, and hard-to-reach areas. Our interventions span Education (formal, non-formal, Community-Based Education and Early Childhood Development), Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Livelihoods and Economic Empowerment, Child Protection, Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment, Food Security and Nutrition, Health, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), WASH, Climate Change Adaptation, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), Social Cohesion, Community Development, Governance, Research, Innovation, and Institutional Capacity Strengthening. Across all programmes, SSEOA prioritizes inclusion, localization, accountability to affected populations, safeguarding, and long-term community resilience.
SSEOA envisions a peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous Afghanistan where every individual—particularly girls, women, children, and marginalized communities—has equitable access to quality education, opportunities, and essential services to realize their full potential. Guided by an experienced Executive Management Team and a distinguished Board of Directors with extensive national and international expertise, the organization upholds the highest standards of professionalism, transparency, accountability, and results-based management. Through strong partnerships with government institutions, United Nations agencies, international and national NGOs, donors, and local communities, SSEOA continues to deliver sustainable, locally owned solutions that create lasting and transformative impact.
SSEOA proudly acknowledges the Central Asia Institute (CAI) as its Core Foundational Institutional Partner, whose unwavering partnership over the past decade has been instrumental in shaping the organization's growth and long-term sustainability. CAI's steadfast institutional support has enabled SSEOA to establish and strengthen community-based education systems, expand access to quality learning opportunities for thousands of children—particularly girls in remote and underserved communities—and build robust organizational systems, governance structures, and operational capacity. Together, SSEOA and CAI have worked extensively across eastern and northeastern Afghanistan, particularly in, advancing inclusive education, girls' education, teacher development, community engagement, school support mechanisms, Women Livelihood Program, and educational resilience in some of Afghanistan's most challenging contexts. This enduring partnership represents a shared commitment to empowering communities through education, fostering local leadership, and creating sustainable pathways for future generations.
